Recoveries in the much-maligned markets of France and Spain helped to off-set declines in Asia as global sales of Scotch grew 11% by value and 9% by volume for the first half of 2013.

Fair Trade Agreements between the EU and Colombia, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama will come into force today, according to the Scotch Whisky Association.

Scotch whisky sales growth slowed to 1% in 2012, while 11 of the sector’s top 20 export markets registered volume declines, according to the Scotch Whisky Association.
